When to go to Brazil: month by month?
Brazil stretches over more than 4,000 km from north to south, so it has no single season. For a classic Rio, Iguaçu and Salvador circuit, we generally suggest travelling from April to November, the period when we run our trips. The calendar below is a guide for that classic route.

From December to March, the southern summer brings heat, humidity and frequent storms, especially in Rio. It is also the local high season, with busy beaches and Brazilians on holiday. Between July and September the climate in the Southeast is usually drier and milder, which makes visiting Rio and Paraty more pleasant.
Which region to choose by season?
| Region | Generally suggested period | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Rio de Janeiro and the Southeast | April to November | Summer (December to March) is hot, humid and stormy |
| Iguaçu Falls | Year-round | Visits are possible on both sides, Brazilian and Argentine |
| Salvador and the Northeast coast | September to March for the coast | Rain is generally more frequent from April to June in Salvador |
| Lençóis Maranhenses | June to September | Lagoons are fullest after the rainy season |
| Pantanal | May to September | Dry season, best for spotting wildlife |
| Amazon | June to November depending on sources | Water levels change excursions a lot |
Here are our reference points by region. They stay general: seasons vary from year to year and sources sometimes differ by a few weeks.
Our experts' tip
Don't try to see everything in a single trip. Between Rio, Iguaçu and the Northeast, distances are covered by plane: three or four well-lived stops beat six rushed ones.
Should you travel for Carnival?
Rio's Carnival takes place in February or March depending on the year, in the middle of the southern summer. It is a unique spectacle, but you need to book early and accept the heat, the crowds and higher prices. If that is your dream, our Highlights of Brazil trip also exists as a special carnival edition, with the Champions' Parade at the sambadrome. Otherwise, we would rather suggest the dry season, which is more comfortable for linking several stops.
Good to know
Brazil lies in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons are reversed compared with France. July is winter there, mild in most tourist regions.
Which trip to Brazil should you choose?
We build every trip to measure, but four itineraries sum up the main ways to discover the country. Each can be adapted to your dates and pace.
If you hesitate between the classic route and a wilder Brazil, tell us your travel month: we will adjust the stops, for instance favouring the Lençóis dunes between June and September.
