Ideal length
A journey in two movements: the organised chaos of Hanoi's Old Quarter, then the absolute calm of a night aboard a traditional junk boat, among the karst peaks of Ha Long Bay. A stop in Ninh Binh, the 'inland Ha Long Bay', closes the loop.
The trip begins in the 36 themed streets of the Old Quarter, each historically dedicated to a craft — silk, silver, medicinal herbs. Between the Temple of Literature and a water puppet show, these first days set the tone for a city where scooter traffic looks chaotic from the outside but follows its own logic once you learn to cross it.
The night aboard the junk boat remains the trip's high point — nearly two thousand karst peaks rising from an emerald sea, explored by kayak and with a stop at a sea cave. The Ninh Binh stage closes the trip on a more earthbound rhythm: a sampan through the rice paddies of Tam Coc, cycling to the old Hoa Lu citadel, and the view from Hang Mua Pagoda's 500 steps.
