A journey between Munich, gateway to Bavaria's romantic castles, and Berlin, a reunified capital that became one of Europe's most vibrant cultural hubs in a single generation.
Commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the late 19th century, this white-towered castle perched on a rocky outcrop in the Bavarian Alps was never finished during his lifetime, but remains one of Europe's most photographed monuments today. Its romantic architecture is said to have directly inspired Sleeping Beauty's castle, popularised much later by Disney studios — a lineage that continues to draw visitors from around the world to this remote corner of Bavaria.
Divided by a wall for twenty-eight years, Berlin has rebuilt itself since 1989 into one of Europe's most dynamic cultural capitals, powered by an artistic and creative scene fuelled by rents that stayed affordable for a long time. The East Side Gallery, the longest surviving stretch of the Wall, transformed into an open-air art gallery by over a hundred international artists, sums up on its own this transformation from a symbol of division into a symbol of collective creativity.
