Bergen for its colourful Hanseatic houses, a cruise on the Nærøyfjord for one of the country's finest fjords, then the Lofoten Islands for their fishing villages and northern-lights nights.
The trip begins at the Hanseatic Bryggen wharf, colourful facades and UNESCO-listed wooden lanes. A full day cruising the Nærøyfjord, one of the country's finest fjords, follows: towering cliff walls, waterfalls dropping straight into the water, and a silence broken only occasionally by the engine.
A flight to the Lofoten archipelago leads to a converted fisherman's cabin (rorbu) set right on the water. The following days alternate between the villages of Reine and Hamnøy, the white-sand beach of Kvalvika ringed by sheer peaks, and a guided night outing in search of the northern lights, far from any light — the high point of a trip that crosses three very different faces of Norway.
