The first chapter unfolds in Galilee, a green region of northern Israel organised around Lake Tiberias, also known as the Sea of Galilee, whose shores concentrate several of the most-mentioned sites in the gospels, from Capernaum to Tabgha. Far from the aridity of the Judean desert, the region surprises with hills covered in olive trees and orchards, as well as a rural way of life shaped by the agricultural kibbutzim and moshavim founded in the 20th century.
Day 1
Sailing on Lake Tiberias
A traditional boat trip on Lake Tiberias, a visit to the gospel sites of Capernaum and Tabgha on the northern shore, then a stroll through the old town of Tiberias.
Day 2
Nazareth and the hills of Galilee
A visit to Nazareth, the town where Jesus is said to have grown up, then a hike through the surrounding hills across olive groves and perched Druze villages.
Days 1-2
The road to the Golan Heights, a volcanic upland plateau annexed by Israel in 1981 and whose status remains internationally disputed, but whose cool climate and basaltic soils have allowed the unexpected development of quality winemaking since the 1980s. Apple and cherry orchards, the waterfalls of Yehudiya Nature Reserve, and views of Mount Hermon, snow-capped part of the year, make for a landscape apart in the region.

A visit to a Golan Heights winery, a tasting of wines produced on volcanic soils over a thousand metres up, with views over the surrounding orchards.

The waterfalls of Yehudiya reserve
A hike in the Yehudiya nature reserve to the waterfalls tumbling through the basalt gorges, with Mount Hermon as a backdrop.
