When to Visit Bali and Indonesia: Month by Month

In short

The best time to visit Bali is generally April to October, during the dry season, with May, June and September striking the best balance. Bali works all year round though: the rainy season (roughly November to March) brings a greener, quieter island.

  • Best periodApril to October (dry season)
  • Quieter monthsMay, June and September, around the July-August peak
  • Wet seasonNovember to March, with showers often in the afternoon
  • Suggested length7 nights for Bali, more for the neighbouring islands

When is the best time to visit Bali for good weather?

Bali sits close to the equator: there is no winter, just two seasons. The dry season generally runs from April to October, with sunny days, cooler nights and calm seas for diving and snorkelling. It is also high season, especially in July and August, when popular sites fill up and prices rise.

We prefer the shoulder months. In May, June and September the skies are generally clear and you can enjoy Ubud's rice terraces or Uluwatu's cliffs without the midsummer crowds. The calendar below sums up each month.

From November to March the heat is humid and rain is more frequent, usually in showers that give way to sunny spells. Between January and March, winds and rain can be stronger. This period has its perks: lush vegetation, near-empty temples and a more intimate feel.

Our experts' tip

If you travel in the wet season, plan outdoor activities early in the morning and keep afternoons for a spa, a cooking class or a temple visit. We adapt the pace of every trip to the weather.

Bali, Java or Komodo: which region for which month?

"Indonesia" is not one single climate. Bali and Java follow roughly the same dry-season logic, April to October. For Komodo, our trips point to April to June and September to November, when the sea is pleasant and hikes more comfortable. The table compares our three Indonesian itineraries.

Which trip should you choose in Bali and Indonesia?

For a first visit, the Ubud to Uluwatu itinerary combines Balinese countryside and the south coast. If you already know Bali, Java and Komodo show a very different side of the archipelago. Here are our trips, all adaptable to your dates.
