In short
The best time to visit the Philippines is generally December to May, during the dry season. From June to November, rain and typhoons call for more caution, except for surfers heading to Siargao.

When is the best time to visit the Philippines?
The archipelago has more than 7,000 islands and its climate varies by region, but two broad seasons stand out. The dry season generally runs from December to May. It starts with cooler, more pleasant months (December to February), then turns hotter and more humid from March to May. For beaches, swimming and boat trips, February, March and April are often the safest months.
The wet season runs from June to November, with more frequent rain and a typhoon risk that generally peaks between August and October. That does not mean it rains all day: many travellers enjoy sunny spells, softer prices and quieter sites. But ferries and domestic flights can be disrupted, which matters when you link several islands.

Our experts' tip
If you travel between June and November, allow a day or two of margin before your international flight and favour a shorter itinerary with few island changes. We adapt the pace accordingly.
Which island or region is best at which time?
The Philippines is not visited everywhere at the same time. Each of our trip pages gives its own recommended period: December to May for most beach combinations, September to November for surfing. Here is a simple guide.
| Destination | Recommended period | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Palawan (Coron, El Nido) | December to May | Lagoons, karst cliffs and boat tours: the sea is generally calmer in the dry season. |
| Visayas (Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor) | December to May | Beaches, tarsiers, Chocolate Hills and inter-island ferries, more reliable outside typhoon season. |
| Boracay | December to May | White sand and turquoise water, easily paired with Manila. |
| Siargao | September to November | Surf season at Cloud 9; later months remain possible, with more rain. |
Our advice: choose the kind of trip first, then fix the dates. A beach-and-lagoon holiday is best planned in the dry season, while a surf stay in Siargao follows the wave calendar. For more seaside ideas, browse our beach holidays.
Which trips should you choose in the Philippines?
It depends on what you are after: lagoons to explore by boat, an island-hopping route, or a few days of rest on the sand. Here are four trips we use as starting points for your tailor-made plan.
Good to know
Durations are those shown on each trip page. Itineraries are starting points: we adjust them to your dates, budget and pace.
How long should you stay and how should you plan it?
Between 8 and 14 days you can already combine the capital with one or two regions. Beyond that, it is better to limit transfers: domestic flights and ferries take time, and part of the point of the Philippines is simply staying put. The Manila and Boracay combination shows this logic well, with two nights in the city and a long beach stay.
