In short
The best months to visit Argentina are generally April, October and November, when most regions are pleasant at once. Your route matters, though: Patagonia is mainly visited from November to March, while Iguazú Falls are more comfortable in the cooler season.

What is the best time to travel to Argentina?
Argentina stretches from subtropical forests in the north to glaciers in the south, so the climate changes sharply from one region to the next. Seasons are reversed compared with Europe: austral summer runs from December to February, winter from June to August. No single month suits every region, so we build each trip around the places you want to see, then pick the date that serves that route best. Here is a month-by-month reading for a trip combining several regions.
If you want to pair Buenos Aires, Iguazú and a little Patagonia, the shoulder seasons are the best compromise: April, then October and November. Temperatures are generally mild and sites are quieter than in high austral summer.

When to go to Patagonia?
To hike around El Chaltén or get close to the Perito Moreno glacier, aim for austral summer, roughly November to March. Days are long and trails are open. Wind is frequent all year, so pack layers. From June to August the cold sets in and some services are generally reduced, which limits hiking. It is not the period we recommend for a first trip.
Our Buenos Aires to El Calafate trip lasts 8 nights; its page gives an ideal period of October to April. It combines the milongas of San Telmo, the Perito Moreno and the Laguna de los Tres viewpoint facing Fitz Roy.
When to see Iguazú Falls?
In the north-east, austral summer is hot and humid. The cooler, drier season, roughly April to September, makes the walkways and trails far more pleasant. Our Iguazu and the Andean Northwest trip (7 nights) is advised from April to June and in September-October, and continues to Salta and the Quebrada de Humahuaca.
Our experts' tip
For a first trip, pair Buenos Aires with just one other hub. Linking Iguazú, Patagonia and vineyards in a week means many flights: allow two weeks, or split the journey into two stays in different seasons if needed.
Buenos Aires and Mendoza: which season?
Buenos Aires can be visited all year, with particular pleasure in austral spring (September to November), when the avenues' jacarandas generally start blooming in October-November, and in autumn (March to May). Summers are hot and heavy, yet the city stays lively: milongas, parrillas and Palermo cafés never stop.
Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes, is generally pleasant in March-April, the harvest period, and in October-November. Our Mendoza, the vineyard at the foot of the Andes stay (6 nights) mixes malbec tastings with a hike to the Horcones lagoon, facing Aconcagua.
| Region | Ideal period | Good to know |
