In short
The best time to visit India is generally October to March, in Rajasthan and Kerala alike. It does depend on the region, though: the summer monsoon (roughly June to September) changes everything, and the Himalaya is mostly visited outside winter.

What is the best time to travel to India?
India is a subcontinent, not a country with a single season. Still, one simple rule works for most travellers: the northern-hemisphere winter, from November to February, brings dry, mild days in both north and south. October and March are shoulder months, often pleasant, with temperatures climbing gradually.
From April to June, by contrast, the heat becomes intense across the plains and Rajasthan, frequently passing 40 °C. The monsoon follows, generally from June to September, with sometimes heavy rain. The calendar below sums up our benchmarks for a first trip to the north and Rajasthan.

These verdicts are general trends: a year can start earlier or later, and Kerala follows its own rhythm, with an earlier monsoon and a second rainy spell in autumn. We always adjust dates to your itinerary.
When should you go to Rajasthan?
For Rajasthan, October to March is the most comfortable stretch. Days are sunny and cool, ideal for exploring forts, palaces and bazaars. In December and January evenings are chilly, even cold in the desert, so pack a proper jacket for a night in a desert camp.
Our Delhi, Agra, Jaipur trip is best from October to March: it lets you see the Taj Mahal at opening time, in the soft early light. If you dream of the desert, Varanasi and the Thar Desert follows the same window, with a night under canvas in the Sam dunes.
Our experts' tip
Book early for December and January, the most sought-after months. If your dates are flexible, late October, November and March often strike an excellent balance between weather and crowds.
When should you go to Kerala, in southern India?
Kerala is lived on the water, and climate matters: our trip Kerala, the backwaters by houseboat lists November to February as the recommended period. The sky is steadier then, and sailing aboard a kettuvallam, the converted rice barge, is at its most pleasant.
During the monsoon the coast turns lush green but wetter, and beach tourism slows down. Some travellers choose this very season for Ayurvedic stays, but it is not a classic discovery trip.
And the Himalaya: when to go?
The Himalaya reverses the logic. Ladakh, for example, is generally accessible only from June to September, when the passes are open, while winter there is extremely harsh. Other mountain regions, such as Sikkim or Uttarakhand, are often known for clear views in spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). If the Himalaya calls you, tell us: we build these itineraries to measure.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best month to go to India?
There is no single one, but November, December, January and February are generally the safest for Rajasthan and Kerala, with dry weather and pleasant temperatures.
Should you avoid the monsoon?
For a first cultural trip, we recommend it: the rains, generally from June to September, complicate visits and transfers. Some regions, such as Ladakh, suit that season better.
How long should you plan for a trip to India?
Our trips last 6 to 7 nights per region. For a first stay, one region at a time lets you enjoy it without rushing, and you can link several for a longer journey.
