A road trip along the Icefields Parkway, one of the world's most beautiful drives, between Banff's turquoise lakes and Jasper's wilderness — moose, elk and hanging glaciers along the way.
The trip begins in the small town of Banff, tucked in the heart of Canada's oldest national park. The first days follow the rhythm of the glacial lakes: Lake Louise and its turquoise water facing the Victoria glacier, then Moraine Lake, wedged between ten peaks that reflect in the water at dawn. The Sulphur Mountain gondola and the Johnston Canyon hike round out this first chapter, before heading north.
The Icefields Parkway, one of the most spectacular drives in the world, links Banff to Jasper past dozens of hanging glaciers, with a stop on the ice of the Columbia Icefield. Jasper, quieter than its southern neighbour, is best explored at the pace of its wildlife — elk and moose spotted along the way — and Maligne Lake, whose cruise reaches Spirit Island, a tiny wooded islet that sums up the Rockies' wilderness on its own. The final days leave the choice between altitude and relaxation, a gondola ride or hot springs.
