Pico Bonito National Park, near La Ceiba on Honduras's Caribbean coast, stretches from a summit rising over two thousand seven hundred metres to just a few kilometres from the sea, creating an exceptional elevation range that concentrates several tropical ecosystems within a small territory. The Cangrejal River, rushing down its slopes, ranks among Central America's best whitewater rafting spots.

Rafting on the Cangrejal River

The Cangrejal River, fed by the park's abundant rainfall, offers rapids classed up to category IV, guided by staff trained to international standards. The calmer stretches upstream allow a tubing descent for a more contemplative experience, surrounded by particularly dense humid rainforest.

Hidden waterfalls and birdwatching

Several hiking trails lead to isolated waterfalls tucked into the forest, some only mapped in recent years. The park, home to over four hundred recorded bird species, remains one of Central America's best sites to observe the resplendent quetzal and the keel-billed toucan, on trails accessible from first light.
