Founded in the 18th century and named after Admiral Horatio Nelson, who was once posted there, Nelson's Dockyard remains the only Georgian naval yard still in operation in the world, UNESCO-listed since 2016. Its restored brick warehouses now house restaurants and shops, while classic yachts continue to moor there, carrying on a three-hundred-year-old maritime tradition.
Far less visited than its neighbour, Barbuda has just a single village for around sixteen hundred residents, leaving its seventeen kilometres of pink beach and lagoon nearly untouched. The Codrington frigatebird sanctuary is home to one of the largest colonies on Earth, more than two thousand pairs nesting in the mangroves, where males inflate their famous red pouch during courtship.
