A journey between St. George's, a vividly colourful colonial harbour nicknamed the Spice Isle for its nutmeg plantations, and Grand Anse Beach, two kilometres of white sand fringing the Caribbean Sea.
The world's second-largest producer of nutmeg after Indonesia, Grenada owes its nickname, the Spice Isle, to entire hillsides covered in nutmeg, cinnamon and cocoa trees, introduced as early as the 18th century. St. George's market, under its colourful parasols, remains the best place to taste and bring home these spices straight from the growers, in a sensory atmosphere all its own.
Created in 2006 by sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor in the wake of Hurricane Ivan, the Molinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park was the first of its kind in the world. Its concrete statues, submerged just metres deep, gradually become coated in coral and sponges, forming as much an artificial reef as a living work of art, accessible by snorkelling or diving alike.
