Saint Lucia's north coast, far from Soufrière and the volcanic Pitons, reveals a more worldly side of the island around Marigot Bay, a natural cove so perfectly sheltered by wooded hills that it was chosen as a filming location for Doctor Dolittle in 1967, and Rodney Bay, a lively marina lined with restaurants and bars concentrating most of the island's northern nightlife.

Marigot Bay, the Hollywood Bay

Marigot Bay, a natural cove protected by densely wooded hills plunging almost directly into turquoise water, owes its international fame to the filming of Doctor Dolittle in 1967, for which the crew built a temporary floating village. This exceptional geographic configuration, one of the best-sheltered bays in the entire Caribbean, makes it today a favoured anchorage for pleasure yachts seeking refuge during tropical storms.

Rodney Bay and the Northern Nightlife

Rodney Bay, built around a modern marina constructed in the 1970s, concentrates most of northern Saint Lucia's restaurants, bars, and shops, offering a lively contrast with the calmer atmosphere of the rest of the island. The Reduit Beach promenade, a gently curving golden-sand beach lined with palm trees, rounds out this developed tourist area, which nonetheless remains human-scale compared to other, more densely urbanised Caribbean destinations.
