Geneva and its lake, a panoramic train ride through the Valais Alps to Zermatt and the Matterhorn, then Lucerne for one last mountain-ringed lake. Three faces of Switzerland, connected by rail.
The trip starts on the shores of Lake Geneva, an evening walk to the Jet d'Eau for a first Genevan evening. The next day, a panoramic train ride crosses the Valais vineyards to Zermatt, a car-free village at the foot of the Matterhorn. A cogwheel train then climbs to Gornergrat for a direct view of the peak, before a walk back down along a marked trail.
The road then reaches Lucerne, check-in near the Chapel Bridge and an evening walk along Lake Lucerne. A cable car and steamboat excursion leads to the summit of Mount Pilatus, panoramic views across the Swiss Alps, before one last free morning in the old town to close this rail journey through three faces of the country.
