In short
Plan on 5 days for a focused first taste, 8 days for a proper circuit, and more if you want to combine cities and desert. Morocco is bigger than it looks: journeys take time, so it is better to pick a region than to rush through everything.

How many days do you need for a first trip to Morocco?
For a first visit, eight days is a very good base. It lets you slow down: time for a medina, a long lunch, a scenic drive with stops. Our imperial cities circuit shows how it works: Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Volubilis and Fez in eight days, with a free day in Marrakech to wander without a plan.
With less time, five days is enough as long as you choose a single theme. It is better to know one corner of the country well than to pile up kilometres.
What can you see in 4 or 5 days in Morocco?
In five days, two wishes stand out: culture and desert.
For culture, the Fez medina and the blue city of Chefchaouen make a natural pair. Our Fez and Chefchaouen escape is done in a private vehicle with a driver: a guided day in Fez, the road to Chefchaouen (around 200 km), then a free morning in the souks.
For desert, our desert, riad and kasbah private 4x4 trip includes a bivouac night at Erg Lihoudi, a riad in Marrakech, the Tizi n'Tichka pass and the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou. It is a practical way to taste the Sahara without spending two weeks on it.
Do you need 8 days or more for the deep south and the imperial cities?
Yes, because distances matter. The deep south alone takes eight days: the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), Aït Ben Haddou, the Draa valley palm groves, the Dadès and Todra gorges, then the Tafilalet at the edge of the Sahara. That is our grand south, kasbahs and gorges circuit, with two full days in Marrakech at the start.
Beyond eight days you can link cities and desert, or add the coast. In that case we prefer to build a tailor-made trip rather than squeeze two itineraries into one.
| Length | What you see | Our circuit |
|---|---|---|
| 4 nights | Fez medina and Chefchaouen | Fez and Chefchaouen |
| 4 nights | Marrakech, bivouac, Aït Ben Haddou | Desert, riad and kasbah by 4x4 |
| 7 nights | Marrakech, imperial cities, Fez | Imperial cities |
| 7 nights | Kasbahs, gorges and the gateway to the Sahara | Grand south |
Our experts' tip
Avoid multiplying one-night stops: two nights in the same place are often worth more than one extra night on the road. Keep a free day for rest or the unexpected.
When should you go, depending on trip length?
Seasons matter as much as length. According to our trip pages, March to May and September to November suit the cities, while the southern circuits work best in October-November and February-April. To fine-tune, read our guide on when to go to Morocco.

Frequently asked questions
Is one week enough to visit Morocco?
One week is enough for a first discovery if you choose one precise circuit. Our imperial cities circuit lasts eight days and seven nights.
Can you see the desert in 5 days?
Yes, with a 4x4 journey and a bivouac night, as on our desert, riad and kasbah trip. It is a taste rather than a full exploration.
Can you combine cities and desert?
It is possible, but you will need more days. We build these itineraries to measure, depending on your length of stay and pace.
