The first chapter unfolds at the Emerald Pool, an emerald-green natural basin fed by a waterfall dropping a few metres amid dense rainforest, one of Dominica's most accessible natural sites thanks to a short trail leading from the main road. The water's emerald colour, which gives the site its name, comes from the surrounding canopy reflecting on remarkably pure water, fed directly by the abundant rainfall of the island's mountainous centre.

A swim beneath the Emerald Pool waterfall
A short hike through the rainforest to the Emerald Pool, a swim in the natural basin directly beneath the waterfall, surrounded by dense vegetation.
Day 2
The rainforest of Morne Trois Pitons National Park
A hike in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, UNESCO-listed, through a rainforest sheltering one of the Caribbean's highest concentrations of hot springs and fumaroles.
Days 1-2
The road to Titou Gorge, a narrow volcanic canyon with black rock walls sculpted by centuries of erosion, through which visitors swim in cool water between two cliffs that sometimes narrow to less than two metres apart. This spectacular site, made famous by a scene filmed for the second instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga in 2006, ends at a small waterfall that the most adventurous swimmers cross by jumping from a rocky ledge.
Day 1
A swim through the volcanic canyon
A guided swim through Titou Gorge, between black volcanic rock walls that narrow in places, to a small waterfall at the back of the canyon.
Day 2
The hot springs of Wotten Waven
Relaxation in the natural hot springs of Wotten Waven village, fed by the island's residual volcanic activity, after the exertion of swimming through Titou Gorge.
