The seaplane transfer from Malé already marks the start of the escape — the archipelago seen from above, a thousand shades of turquoise. The overwater villa then becomes the trip's only fixed point: a private deck above the lagoon, a ladder straight into the water, and a pace nothing disturbs. Days unfold freely, between snorkeling trips on the lagoon's house reef — turtles and parrotfish included — and long stretches with no plan beyond the present moment.
A sunset cruise with dolphins at the bow, and a day on a secluded sandbank — picnic lunch served on the spot, nothing on the horizon but lagoon — punctuate the week without ever filling it. A spa treatment in the late afternoon, then one last morning on the deck before the transfer back, close out a stay built for doing nothing, very well.
