The classic Golden Triangle reimagined to take its time: Delhi and its organised chaos, Agra and the Taj Mahal seen at first light, then Jaipur, the pink city, between hilltop forts and bustling bazaars.
The trip begins in the organised chaos of Old Delhi, between the Chandni Chowk market and Humayun's Tomb, the direct architectural precursor to the Taj Mahal. The road to Agra leads to one of the world's most photographed monuments, seen right at opening, in the pink light of early morning and without the crowds that flood the site by mid-morning.
Jaipur closes the Golden Triangle on its own terms — Amber Fort, perched on a hill and reachable by elephant, the City Palace still home to the royal family, and Hawa Mahal, whose facade of over nine hundred windows once let the court's women watch the street unseen. An excursion to a rural village closes the trip away from the big sights, over lunch with a local family.
