The first chapter centres on Wli Falls, which drop a single 140-metre plunge in the heart of a forest reserve home to thousands of fruit bats nesting in the surrounding cliffs. Nearby, the ascent of Mount Afadjato, Ghana's highest point at 885 metres, offers a view over the neighbouring Togolese border.
Day 1
Hike to Wli Falls
A hike through the forest reserve to the foot of Wli Falls, with a swim break in the natural pool and a chance to observe the fruit bat colonies nesting in the cliffs.
Day 2
Climbing Mount Afadjato
A morning climb up Mount Afadjato, Ghana's highest point, through dense forest before reaching an open summit with views over the surrounding hills and neighbouring Togo.
Days 1-2
On to the Tafi Atome sanctuary, where colonies of mona monkeys live freely at the heart of the village, protected for generations by a traditional belief that considers them sacred. A final stop on the shores of Lake Volta, the world's largest reservoir by surface area, for a late-afternoon cruise and an immersion in Ewe culture, whose kente weaving ranks among the country's most renowned.

A visit to the Tafi Atome sanctuary early in the morning, when the mona monkeys are most active, with a village guide explaining the traditional beliefs that have ensured their protection for generations.

Lake Volta cruise and kente weaving
A late-afternoon cruise on Lake Volta, then a visit to a kente weaving workshop to watch this traditional cloth being made, each pattern and colour carrying a precise meaning in Ewe culture.
