Istanbul for Hagia Sophia, the Grand Bazaar and the Bosphorus straddling two continents, then Cappadocia for its fairy chimneys and sunrise hot-air balloons.

Istanbul, straddling two continents

The trip begins facing Hagia Sophia, visited in the late afternoon before dinner facing the Blue Mosque. The next day, the covered lanes of the Grand Bazaar fill the morning, before a Bosphorus cruise that crosses, in a single boat trip, Europe and Asia — a constant reminder of the city's unique position.

Cappadocia, fairy chimneys and hot-air balloons

A flight to Cappadocia changes the scenery entirely: check-in at a cave-house hotel, sunset over the Göreme valley. The trip's high point comes the very next morning, with a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the fairy chimneys, followed by a guided hike through the Rose Valley, among sculpted rock formations and old Byzantine chapels.
