A journey between El Nido, its limestone lagoons ranked among the most beautiful in the world, and Bohol, its conical hills that turn chocolate brown in the dry season and its tarsiers, one of the smallest primates on the planet.
Bacuit Bay, off El Nido, holds around forty limestone islands with spectacular shapes, sculpted by millions of years of erosion. The Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon, accessible only by kayak or by swimming through narrow openings in the rock, enclose almost perfectly still emerald-green waters, ringed by steep cliffs that filter out the noise of the outside world.
Over seventeen hundred conical hills of still-debated geological origin dot the interior of Bohol island, green for much of the year but brown like melted chocolate during the dry season. A few kilometres away, a protected sanctuary is home to the Philippine tarsier, a nocturnal primate barely ten centimetres tall with disproportionately large eyes, threatened by the loss of its natural habitat.
