Dubrovnik for its ramparts and white-stone old town, Plitvice National Park for its cascading lakes, then the island of Hvar for its coves and deep-blue Adriatic.
The trip begins on Dubrovnik's city walls, a late-afternoon walk for an overview of the old town's tiled rooftops. The next day, a cable car up Mount Srđ offers a panorama over the Adriatic, before a sea kayaking trip along the fortifications. The road then leads to Plitvice National Park, where wooden walkways wind between cascading lakes of a striking blue-green.
A ferry from Split leads to the island of Hvar, facing the harbour and its Venetian fortress. A day by boat along the southern coves, a stop at a lavender field later in the day, precedes one last free morning in Hvar town's stone lanes — a final look at the Adriatic before heading back.
