A journey between Kotor Bay, a UNESCO-listed Mediterranean fjord ringed by Venetian ramparts, and the Tara Canyon, Europe's deepest, at the heart of Durmitor National Park.
Often nicknamed Europe's southernmost fjord though geologically a ria, Kotor Bay cuts thirty kilometres inland between mountains that plunge almost sheer into turquoise water. Its Venetian villages, UNESCO-listed, and the artificial islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, built stone by stone by local sailors since the 15th century, make it one of the Mediterranean's most spectacular coastal landscapes.
UNESCO-listed for its eighteen glacial lakes and peaks exceeding twenty-five hundred metres, Durmitor National Park is also home to the Tara Canyon, Europe's deepest at more than thirteen hundred metres in places, ranking just behind the Grand Canyon on a global scale. Its turquoise waters, among the purest on the continent, can be rafted between May and September.
