With salinity nearly ten times that of the oceans, the Dead Sea makes floating almost involuntary — it's impossible to sink, even without knowing how to swim. This salt lake, fed by the Jordan River with no outlet, sits over four hundred metres below sea level, making it the lowest point on the Earth's surface. The mineral muds along its shores have been used since antiquity for their soothing effects on the skin.
